Tailgate lock/central locking
« on: 25 June 2015, 23:29 »
Hi all, got a problem with my tailgate lock and central locking:

Can't get key in tailgate lock any more and so can't unlock tailgate to open tailgate and get lock out to replace it.
Any ideas?

I've been having a problem where central locking working would work fine and then every now and again it would stop working for a few days then start working again. Well it's now stopped working again. I can get driver door to unlock with remote but nothing else will unlock and so boot is stuck shut. As I can't get key in lock I can't unlock it and open normally. I don't hear any noise coming from the locking pump. I'm guessing pump works electrically. Is it linked to actuator in driver door and what wires would I be looking for to check it.

Cheers

Get in the car and fold down your rear seats, remove the black plastic panel from the tailgate. There should be like a metal rod lever, which if you give it a pull, will unlock the door.

This is from memory, but it should become obvious when you get the plastic panel off.

Sorry, don't know about the central locking. Mine hasn't worked since I got it
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

Ok been looking at forums and decided to check fuel cap. That won't open either so only thing that opens is driver door with remote and key. Any ideas guys. Luckily enough I fueled up the other day.

Fuel cap isn't a worry. If worst comes to the worst, one firm tug will open it. The lock pin is plastic and it's only glued to the flap IIRC

The central locking system is pneumatic with the main unit being in the boot. Find it and get someone to turn the key in the drivers door and see if it's doing anything.

I had a similar issue.

The RCL is controlled from the drivers door.
Take the door card off and check that there is a metal rod connecting the door lock to the CL pump.
This might have come detached or the plastic that connects to the door lock broken.

If it was just your boot lock, I'd have said check the CL in the boot. But as this is boot and fuel flap, sounds more like something not connected to your drivers door lock.
