Turbo stall
« on: 25 June 2015, 22:12 »
Got a new golf today after my other failed MOT.

It has a lot of mods but got a great bargin.

On the 180 mile journey home I noticed that when I floored it the psi shoots up to 25-30ish psi (didn't look at gauge for too long) boosting really strong but then noticed that after a few seconds on full boost the turbo seemed to just shut off and psi dropped to like 0.

Then letting go of accelerator and hitting it again brought the boost back briefly a few seconds before it happened again. Twice while boosting it shut off that hard that felt like a hose completely blew off with pressure or something. Still boosted strong after happening so don't think that did happen. Just best way I can explain what it felt like.

Oil light was flashing too. Half way home I pulled into services and let it settle and checked oil. Was pretty low so topped up and the oil light flashing didn't happen again but the loss of boost until i let go and re pressed acceleration was happening again.

Seems to be more noticeable when in higher gears like 3-5 rather than 1-2.

Any ideas?

That's way too much boost for a stage 2. The reason it's dropping off so violently is the N75 or MAF and ECU are saving your engine and dumping the boost as they are sensing too much. You can check this via VAG COM with actual vs requested boost but first of all I would check all the vac lines to and from the N75 and actuator for splits and maybe some sort of bodge

Actually maybe not I spoke too soon did it yesterday on the way back from the cinema. Pasting fine but just over 20 psi according to boost gauge but then it dropped off to around 5 or 6 psi

limp mode. There should be a fault code logged for it
