Car opened windows by itself and had iPod nicked
« on: 25 June 2015, 16:39 »
It would appear that today, I've been another victim of that wonderful VW Golf "feature" which involves the car winding its own windows completely down for no reason that I can think of.  Haven't driven the car for 24 hours and only realised it this afternoon.

Oh, and in the time that the inside has been accessible, some opportunistic thief has come along, been inside the car and nicked my iPod out of the centre armrest.  Not even my GTI's alarm went off.

Hats off to you VW for designing a car that allows this to happen.  Hats off to my local town for breeding the petty thieves who just couldn't help themselves.  You should really all give yourselves a pat on the back for being so bloody clever.

To late for your iPod, but you know you can disable this feature in the DIS menu. Convenience - Windows - Off.

Apologies if you know this already.  It used to drive me nuts, and I can't tell you the number of times my windows were all open all day in the work car park whilst I was blissfully unaware.  It got disabled pretty sharpish.

Sorry to hear your iPod got nicked, some scum out there.
Just a point about your windows opening by themselves. Were every window open or just one?
The reason I ask is that if every window were open you may unknowingly opened them by yourself. It happened to me once, the keys were in my pocket and I was crouched down,a coin or something in my pocket pushed and held down the unlock button on key fob.If you hold this button down it opens all the windows.Equally if you hold the lock button the windows close if open.
The fact your alarm didn't go off would suggest this.

This is what I'm referring to in my earlier post.  It's a stupid feature that is enabled by default   If this is what happened the OP can disable it in the DIS to avoid it happening again.

I never knew that you could disable it although it only happened once with me.It is a silly function and VW must have come to their senses as they didn't put it on the mk7.

Hi all, thanks for the replies, hope you don't mind my venting my spleen.

Yes, Andy G, all the windows were open fully.

As per your suggestion Booth11, I have just been in to the car's settings, and in the "Window Op." section it was set to "All".

I have now set it to "Off" or whatever it is, so hopefully it won't happen again!  I think I will go to using a cheap USB stick for the time being.  My music is very important to me!

That should do the trick codestud.  You can test if the new setting has taken by just keeping your thumb on the unlock button for 2/3 secs and same when you press lock button.

Hope the ipod theives get their comeuppance one way or another

Even if the unlock button was pressed and held so that the windows went down, surely the doors would re-lock if none of them had been opened (even if the windows didn't go up) therefore arming the alarm?

I'm off to try mine now and see what happens.

I'm back after trying this on both the Golf and Passat.

Press and hold the unlock button and the windows open. After however many seconds the doors re-lock and the indicators flash. I reached inside to find that the doors were deadlocked, but the ultrasonics appeared to be off. No amount of waving about would make the alarm sound.

That's poor.  Even more reason to disable the idiotic window opening/closing feature.
