SUPERCHARGING
« on: 20 June 2015, 23:35 »
Hi. I've decided I'm going to supercharge my golf GTi 2.0 8v. I'm looking to see if anybody has done the same, if so I want to pick your brain to make sure I get the right set up

Which supercharger are you going to use and how are you planning on lowering the compression?

Find and discuss with professionals. There's good reason nobody does this.... This is a massive investment, and possibly for very little gains with that particular engine. I imagine you've considered fitting an uprated 1.8t?

I know a fair bit about it as planned to do it to my mk3 Gti. The expense is great though with nominal gains. It was much cheaper for me to sell the mk3 and buy a Corrado G60 so I did that instead. I'm sure someone on this forum has done it as I remember speaking with them. As mentioned you'll need to lower the compression ratio of the bottom end to some degree. If your using a G-Lader you'll need all the brackets etc and that is a minimum 1000 pound before you've even begun.

Go for it if you want to be different but just be aware that there are cheaper routes like the 1.8t conversion albiet it has been done by every man and his dog.

Superchargers are fun though, hard to get bored of them. But bolting one to a 2.0 8v in a heavy mk3 it's never going to tear your face off.

cheers for your reply's. I'm def going ahead with the engine in the car, as you pointed out 1.8t's have been done by the bucket loads, including myself. I've also done the SAAB conversion.
The brakes and suspension have already more than adequate and the engine is already bored to 2145cc with mild cam and large Exhaust valves.
There's plenty of Chargers out there, i'm just trying to find the right 1. I'm also aware that i'll not have much change out of £4k. Ye, I know, I'm barking mad.

you need to decide what power output you want to achieve first.
