red oil light
« on: 16 June 2015, 14:58 »
Can any one help please

Have a tdi 115ajm. Coolant hose bust while driving on the motor way, stop check coolant came one, topped it up at the services, carried on driving, then coolant and the red oil light came on. Got towed home, fixed the coolant leak but now when i rev the engine to about 2krpm the red light comes back on?

Oil level is fine but is smells burnt? last oil change was about 1.5k ago with 5-30 fs for pd engines from eurocarparts.

Oil pressure? Maybe the oil pickup is blocked or pump knackered.

fitted a new sensor, havent had a chance to test as of yet as im still awaiting a gasket so i can fix the coolant leak ( thanks GSF for the uber slow delivery  )

Ive noticed my sump has a leak at the seal would that be causing low pressure?

From what ive been reading if the light still comes on after replacing the sensor ill need to take the sump off and replace or clean the oil pick up pipe and maybe replace the oil pump too? and if that doesn't sort it the problem it will have something to do with the bottom end bearings or seals being worn?

If light still comes up after replacing the pressure switch then have the oil pressure checked. It does not cost much....
You could also have wiring issue.

You wouldnt believe it mate. The coolant leak had repeatedly overheated the engine(couldnt find a leak first couple times i stopped to refill the coolant), that in turn melted the inner windage tray in the sump which then blocked the pick up. luckily did zero miles with it blocked , as soon as the oil pressure came on engine was off and i was in a lay-by on the phone to the AA
