Removal of rear view mirror
« on: 16 June 2015, 11:25 »
Does anyone know how to remove the trim pieces that hold the rear view mirror in place? It looks like the long black plastic wiring cover needs to come off first but i'm not sure how to remove it. I'm a bit scared of applying force and cracking the windscreen.
It looks like once this plastic cover is removed, the mirror should just twist off the windscreen.

I have seen the guy that replaced my windscreen do it. Basically you use an ordinary prying tool and pull the plastic cover towards you, it comes off quite easily. You won't crack the windscreen.

It's also screwed on to roof somewhere. Autoglass guy was thumbling about there with a screwdriver, probably Philips.

Was he separating the connector plug with the screwdriver? When i removed the auto dimming mirror on my old mk4 golf, there were two connector plugs. One for the mirror itself and another for the rain sensor.

I'll take the interior light cover off to see if there are any visible screws there.

I'm attempting a retrofit of the high beam assist. It looks like it should just be a case of swapping the mirror then running a twisted pair cable into the CAN gateway. It should then show up in VCDS.
