Mk4 golf gti
« on: 14 June 2015, 20:15 »
Hi, after many years of owning fords, I've finally had enough of the poor build quality, rust and expensive parts. I've never owned a VW before but I'm seriously thinking of buying a mk4 1.8t gti. What are people's experiences with them on a daily basis and what to look out for?

Thanks James

I've had mine for 6 years and around 50k miles now. Its been great!
Yes its had its moments but only "broken down" twice; once was a coilpack which I kept a spare in boot and other was a leaky plastic coolant joiner.

It has had work done and I am a bit ocd with servicing, but spend more on fun stuff than repairs. There's a few common faults but none truly expensive or beyond diy mechanic.
There's advice for buyers in the mk4 section ;)
