Diverter valve covered in oil. Is this normal?

Removed the diverter valve and it was covered in oil and had some oil in the recess it fits in?

Is this normal as the oil seems to have also be leaking out of the yellow DV seal and dripping down onto the pipe below?

That is the standard re-circulation valve, looks like a G revision and you will already have a variant fitted, sometimes the rubber splits which causes a boost leak and loss of power which the ECU doesn't always store a code for. The D revision has no rubber and is less prone to failure.

The valve opens up and bleeds the air away from the throttle body when the throttle valve is in the closed position which prevents the impeller from slowing down.

Possibly the PCV system causing the oil build up, it can also collect around the seal for the Intercooler.

Research basically says either my DV has failed or the seal on it to the housing isnt sealing or its not sitting correct.
  The diaphragm looks fine so I think the seal is poor.

This is exactly what mine is doing, I pulled the DV at the week end but it all looked ok so I popped it back in. But as you have noted that same pipe I had a blob of oil at the bottom of it and on the axle where it's been dripping but ruled the DV out!

Now you have me thinking if it's the yellow seal that not sitting right. I actually have a new DV which i bought so might just put it in and see if it makes a difference.

How easy is it to remove the diverted valve?

I'm not 100% sure where it is! If I replace mine which one do you advise? I have a slight oil leak somewhere and this was mentioned

Erm I'm no mechanic!

Just thought I'd put that out there and I managed it, in fact it saddens me to say it took 45mins to get the clip off! It was an absolute pain. Once off I had the DV out in 5 real easy. Probably took 5 to pop it back in however I did buy tools to do the job:

A 1/4 socket wrench
5 Allen
Extension for the above (made poppng the top screw back a cinge)

With regards to location it's off centre towards the drivers side kind of right under the engine, Google it there are a few guides are out there. You should be able to see the part number on the bottom visible when your looking up.

After research I went for the revision G, but if your running more than stock perhaps D its a bit stronger although there is opinion either side on this one!
