Wing mirror noise when folding out
« on: 09 June 2015, 20:26 »
What's the best stuff to use to lubricate the rubber etc on the wing mirrors. My passenger mirror has started taking slightly longer than the drivers one and it's also slightly noisier too.

Hilarious

On a serious note, I always used WD40 to lubricate the mirror folding mechanism on my cars. It is best to do it at least twice a year, otherwise due to the cr@ppy UK weather the water will infiltrate the mechanism and they will start shaking and make all sorts of noises when folding in/out.

Cheap option - WD40 or GT85

Expensive option - Krytox oil (DuPont GPL-105).  Brilliant on creaky door seals, expect it would be equally good on wing mirror rubber.

And your weapon of choice for the human body is?

WD40 is great for most things but it does dry out over time.  Krytox (my autocorrect insists on changing this to Krypton ),  keeps rubber supple for much longer.  My (still) silent door seals are proof of this.
