Engine cover mount
« on: 08 June 2015, 21:55 »
So I broke one of the mounts/ nipple things that the engine cover sits on! Does anyone know where I can get a replacement online or at least what they're called so I can google it myself?

Ps. Was trying to figure out where an extremely annoying rattle was coming behind dash / engine bay / soundaktor area. If anyone can help with this either I'd be very grateful! :drool:

The best bet for a new rubber nipple would be to ring TPS or your local VW parts desk, if they have someone there who is a bit switched on, and ask them. If it can't be bought separately then a new engine cover is going to be big bucks.
All they'll need is the Reg No and if you have the part number for the engine cover to hand it'll make their life easier as they search their little pictograms.

As for the rattle - can it be replicated with the car stood still with the bonnet up? It sounds like you've done the wiggle test (hence the broken nipple) but it's not unknown for the soundaktor to rattle and vibrate. Time to put your warranty to use.

How can you be sure the nipple bit has fallen off? Are you sure it isn't a warranty claim? Just wondering if you could put your warranty to use for another part too

Just looked this up for you, so you can see if its a part that is available separately

sorry I can't make the pic any bigger.

It's definitely not there! I get the feeling these MK7's were built on a bit of a budget.. Still a great car though!

It's not the soundaktor unfortunately.. Would just pull it out at this stage if it was! I have checked everything in the engine bay so my best guess is that it must be coming from inside the dash

I've driven around with the engine cover off, soundaktor unplugged and plastic piece from behind windshield to channel rainwater removed but the rattle continues.. Called dealer today and booking in early next week for a fix! (Hopefully!)
