WING MIRRORS
« on: 20 September 2005, 15:57 »
My 1.8T (2000 on a W plate) has an electric wing mirror switch with four symbols on it.  One of symbols appears to show folding mirrors.  Needless to say they don't fold.  What gives?  I have checked fuses, etc but without taking the mirrors apart I don't even know if there are motors in there!  However, why would VW put this switch in if the mirrors don't fold??

Also, when does the heating in the mirror glass come on?  My handbook says they heat up when the rear heated window is switched on, but again, the switch in the drivers door shows a symbol for heating!

I know exactly what it is mate, the switches are prone to snapping off and it has been replaced, I know this as I snapped mine and the only switch they could give was a newer one, my car is also 2000 (W). I was thinking of getting some motors for my mirrors to go with my new switch lol.

Thanks guys.  Don't suppose you know which models came with lecky folding mirrors do you?  I wouldn't mind having a go at fitting them - my mirrors are always getting scratched as I can never be arsed to put em in manually (especially when you park up and it's chucking down with rain!).  Wonder if motors from a Pug 406 coupe could be adapted.

Cheers Razla.  I hope you mean mirrors though - I don't fancy folding windows!

other option is to buy some nice smaller mirrors instead of the big micky mouse ones the cars have as standard!!
