Re Golf R or GTI PP
« on: 27 May 2015, 20:56 »
Hi all

Been waiting for a GTI PP from the dealer since the start of March and stuck at stage 2 with dealer saying it will be probably August, after originally saying June.

I'm getting to the stage where I may get my deposit back and stump up the extra cash for a 1 or 2 month old R, given the performance advantage and 4 wheel drive for traction and winter B roads.

I have seen a few for sale at dealers and might try one, maybe with the DSG box

Any views from owners welcome.

Will you get a 1 or 2 month old R cheaper than you can get a new one for with 12% discount? If you're PCPing then you'll probably cop for an extra few % APR which could run to £700-1000 more interest over 3 years - something to consider when buying a nearly new VW.

Most dealers are taking full advantage of the wait to hold out for full RRP or close to it on a new stock R for an almost new one.

GTI PP with a few options (adaptive chassis, Dynaudio, heated front screen and PP, pearl black) secured for £27k, retail think was £30k.

A few month old R with dsg and lapis blue and 19's up for £32k.

If they could give me a date of say mid July delivery I'd wait but no visibility hence thinking about the R

My GTI was 28th november order, turned up mid february.

They didn't give me a fixed date for ages and then they said it would be mid march and were well out. was built on the build week i eventually got given as my provisional which was 5. but then it turned up early.

Based on that mid july shouldn't be too hard. depends if you've got the 5k knocking about to get the R. are the options from the GTI on the R? Do you value the power and traction increase over the lack of options (if thats the case)

I had a GTI for just over a year and traded it for an R. Depends what you're looking for. For a driving machine, it's the R without question. If you want something in the middle, get the GTI.

In my opinion, the R is a big upgrade on the GTI and all I could recommend is that you drive one.

If you have no p/x to muddy the waters then you could do better than £3k off a £30k GTI (assuming you are PCPing to get the £1250 deposit contribution). If you are not PCPing then consider doing it to snag the deposit contribution and pay it off under the 14 day cooling off period when you collect your car, the deposit contribution won't be rescinded.
