Seat Leon FR Mk3
« on: 25 May 2015, 14:36 »
Hopefully people don't mind me posting some non-golf content (but it's still part of the VAG family I suppose )

I present my efforts for this mornings clean. My Mrs. Leon FR. Very nice car to drive, very similar to the Golf Mk7 in fairness although not quite as well put together. The DRLs are better on the FR though, a lot more aggressive looking.

My method was:

1. PowerMaxed TFR (not that impressed, bought it on the hype of it being a touchless cleaner. It isn't.)
2. Rinse Off and wash with AG Shampoo and Conditioner
3. VP Advanced Neutral Snow Foam
4. Farecla G3 Clay Cloth Wipe Down
5. Wax with Fusso Soft 99 Dark
6. Wheels sealed with AG Extra Gloss Protection
7. Glass wiped down with Bouncers Done and Dusted QD
8. Exhaust tips buffed with AG Metal Polish
9. Tyres finished of with Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel

I didn't polish the car as to be honest it didn't really need it and the only polish I've got is AG Super Resin Polish that doesn't bond well with the Fusso. Giving the Fusso another go this summer as previously I've been disappointed with it. It applies to the car really nicely and has given a nice flake pop this time so we'll see.

Now for the images, sadly it isn't as sunny as I'd of liked but think it still came up nicely.

Looks excellent Kyle, and it is VAG, lol.  Very nice job

Interested to see you used a clay cloth, how did you find it?

In the last year I've tested clay pads and a clay cloth, both for WoWo.  I've also got the DoDo Juice Clay Sponge.  Of the 2 types, the clay cloth is far and away my favourite, and I don't think I'll go back to traditional clay bars now.  I found the cloth very easy to use.  The pliability of the cloth is great for the contours of the car, and so easy to rinse, dry and store for next time round.  A good technique is still important to minimise marring, but I love it.

I haven't tried the Fusso yet, but I know others rate it highly.  I'm still totally in love with DoDo Juice BlueVelvet Pro at the moment

I can't comment on the clay cloth in comparison to an actual clay bar as I've decided that would be too difficult to use and I'd no doubt marr the paint. The cloth is superb, really easy to use and I can get the whole car done in about 15 minutes.

I've just purchased some Car Pro TRIX (Tar and Iron Remover) so I'm going to trial this before claying next time and see if this helps further. The paint feels like glass though which is exactly what I was aiming for.

I used TRIX last time I did a decon.  I didn't think the results were on a par with using separate dedicated iron remover and tar remover, but it gave reasonable results, and the remaining contaminants were shifted with the clay cloth.  It is good for if you're pushed for time, as I was in that instance

Did you do the plastic bag test before and after claying, really shows the difference.

No, what's that test?

Well it's very technical

You get a plastic bag, sandwich or freezer type bag, wear it like a glove, then run your hand over the paintwork.  It emphasises the feel of any embedded contaminants so you can really tell how bad it is and where.  Then do the same after decon to feel how glassy the paintwork is.  Also worth doing it between TRIX stage and claying to see what's left to shift.

Quick question I forgot to ask before.  Why did you snow foam AFTER shampooing?  Were you using the snow foam as a lubricant for the clay cloth?

Yeah that's exactly why. Find its a really great lube for the clay mitt.

Nice idea.  Not so sure it would work for me.  My driveway gets a lot of sun and have very hard water, so if I foamed the whole car first, then clayed there'd be a danger of the snow foam drying on the car, leaving water marks, which even claying struggle to shift.  Could do it a panel at a time I suppose.
