hi guys,

just wanna say this is my 1st post in at least 2, 3 years - i currently had a MK4 golf 1.8T, BEAUTIFUL car! loved her to bits, i sold her a few years ago tho :(

Basically, i went round a friends the other day and noticed he had a MK2 1.8 J Reg parked up & abandoned... he has ASSUED me it will work with a new battery as its been stood up for a few year (and has also said the brakes are probably seized) it needs putting back together as he has striped it (not engine tho, thts still intact, just wires all unplugged) ready for respraying and arch welding... since then he never put her back together as dosnt have anytime...

he said i can have her, for 2K originally, over this week he's dropped it to £1600 (he even said he will deliver it to my house for free) il upload some pics now and let me no what you think

(i appoliges for spelling a grammer, very dyslexic)
so far it has;

full respray (including under bonnet) Cream
new rear window
new tyres
refurbed & sprayed Porche alloys (brown)
new seals
new lights front and back
new porche door handles
small bumper kit i think?
new coil overs
been fully serived and hasn't driving a mile
120k on clock
2 previous owners (he driving it no more than a few hundred id say)

If the shell is sound, and the loose parts all together I'd go for it mate. Get the engine turning over, try start it if you can. Brakes is easy. Wheels look nice. If you have the space and a bit of money to throw at it, then you're on to a winner ;)

No way its worth 1600quid in that state (maybe if it was roadworthy with a 12month ticket), if he stuck it on eBay he'd be lucky to see 600. Nothing worse than getting robbed by your mates... walk away and take it off him in a month or two when he sees sense.

Not wanting to offend, but I'd be inclined to disagree matey :/
Respray looks good, wheels look good, sounds like all the parts are there. If it runs ok, its just a big mechano set :) Bit of time on the brakes perhaps, then putting the rest of it back together and it's a sorted little motor.
I'd

love to have the space and funds for something like this.

If he came down £400 overnight try a cheeky little offer back ;)

No offence taken mate, but I reckon that when put back together (when are the parts ever 'all there' too - gonna be a few costly trips to stealership for sure) it's not gonna fetch much more than 1600quid. You can get decent Mk2s that are on the road for that kind of money.

Anyway, not saying don't buy it, if OP is happy with the price then that's fine, just offering a different perspective as I personally wouldn't pay much that for it :)
