This might be a stupied question, but how do the the front and rear vw badges come off, is it as simple as just pulling them off, strange noises when a force is applied sounds like breaking plastic.

Pretty sure the front badge requires removal of the grill section which is held by 4 torx screws. Google badge removal gti mk6 and you'll find it

For rear badge removal - see this thread for varying method/tips for rear badge removal.  Relates to Mk7 but same method for mk6.

With the ensuing "R" your turning to the dark side!
Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

depends what year golf you got buddy. some mk6 like mine a 2011 you can just twist the front and it clips out. some you have to take the grill out which is easy enough. youtube it loads of vids!  the back is difficult... you have to get a screddriver under and bascially snap it off. i got mine off without snapping but very hard.  again youtube links.
