Isn't this just ludicrous. I can understand they want to prevent theft and illegally obtained units flooding Ebay and the like, but if someone purchases a unit directly from the manufacturer (or the dealer), or as Fred says, if a car was delivered by accident with the incorrect system fitted, then so long as the right channels are adhered to, and VW factory are in the loop the whole way, why can't these be retrofitted ?
Surely It's just a bit of coding from the factory that's preventing this, and so long as they take this attitude, the smart people out there will find a way to crack the protection and there will be a flood of cracked units on the web ?
I'm sure there's a few people that would pay a good chunk of money to either have Nav retrofitted (the original owner might not have specified it at time of order), or some people might want the MIB II units to have the mirrorlink function so that things like googlemaps and on-line services become available. Surely this would generate additional revenue for the dealerships ?
