Obvious, but get valuations from CAP, Parkers and WBAC, for trade-in (good and poor condition) and private valuation, before you start talking to a dealer.  Valuations often differ between these sites but  take the average of them and it'll give a good idea of what to pitch for.   Also see what similar specs cars are going for on the used market and using MH's dealer % work back to get a reasonable trade-in figure.  If buying then new car discount will have a bearing on what you will get offered as p/x.

If you like driving a fridge, then it is perfect for you.

Still better than red though

No fisticuffs lads

I'll whisper it....

I don't like red either

I always think it looks fantastic when properly detailed but I've never, ever wanted a red car.

I far prefer a white Golf to a metallic black one.

I love metallic black cars but only if they have sufficient 'chrome brightwork' which can be in silver or shiny black especially around the window areas. The Golf lacks this and any colour darker than Carbon Grey looks a bit 'wrong' on it.

So you admit you like a white golf then

It's the opposite for me.  I dislike too much chrome trim and especially hate it around windows, which puts me off some Audis.  The R just about gets away with it with the brushed silver, but any more and it would have crossed the line.  As it is I may have to swap out the wing mirror covers for gloss black.  Shiny black trim is good though and I wish Golfs had this in place of the greyish black window rubbers.

As you say ETTO.

I said I 'prefer' it, which is different from 'liking' it.

Yes, black chrome (shiny black trim) would have been excellent. They have this on BMW M Sport and M cars.

Is there a way to get a realistic value from a dealer to sell to them?

What's the bidding bit about?

Have a 5 door CSG GTD I'm thinking of changing for something different.

Try and find an example used same spec as yours, similar mileages at 3 different VW dealerships and average the price. They will want to make at minimum £3k on yours (probably £4k) - that is what you'll be offered to sell back to them, maybe expect £3k/£3.5k less than their sticker price in a p/x and £2k less than their sticker price for a private sale.

Sometimes you will get multiple dealerships bidding for your car, giving you a price - go with the best one.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Yes the shiny black looks very good, and if I didn't have a pathological hatred of BMWs (don't ask), I might be tempted.

Darling, sweet, Rebecca.

This was pretty obvious from day one when we met under the arches! I must admit that experience was quite chilling. But help is at hand.

Pathological hatred is a mental disorder which many people suffer with. Hitler was a prime example. I can assure you here and now you are not totally or criminally insane yet, but are well on the torturous path of becoming so. Would you like to see my other half who is a Consultant Psychiatrist? Mates rates will apply.

Looking forward to your response.

Best wishes,
Asker

Dearest Asker

Thank you for your unsolicited professional assessment of current mental state   Born of a Jewish mother, I am slightly dismayed at being lumped into the same category as Hitler - thanks

My hatred of BMWs, irrational as it is, is the result of a traumatic period experienced in a previous work incarnation.  Said trauma involved harassment from a group of 'clients' I shall politely describe as a nano step away from the fully fledged crooks of the East End, and whose motor of choice was an ever changing variety of shiny Bimmers.  It's been a few years now, but on a biannual basis I get a LinkedIn request from one of these delightful people lest I forget.

As much as I appreciate the kind offer of personally recommended and generously discounted psychiatric treatment, I will decline, suffer in silence, and continue to shudder when I see the blue and white roundel (dis)appearing in my rear view mirror

Your darling, sweet Rebecca
