Why wouldn't you want to squeeze your dealers profits  :undecided:
wasn't it them who has caused all this extra delay when you added the Pretoria's to your order and allegedly they ordered a brand new car and kept your original in the system so they could line their pockets on someone who didn't want to wait ??
If this is the case I would want to have as big an effect as possible on their profit margins

I always assumed that when another unallocated order came in around the time mine was due (seemingly the same car), but VW UK are adamant that an order cannot be decoupled from a tracking/order number and reallocated to a new one when I suggested this probably happened. The other car couldn't have been mine if that was the case. Taking them at their word (would they lie to protect the dealer while opening themselves up to blame?), the dealership seems blameless.

If they are blameless then i'd like VW UK to take the hit, they should be able to afford it with 2 price rises and big currency gains in their favour since I ordered the car.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Agree absolutely if it was VW UK but something shady has occurred either way. You added Pretoria's and the lead time goes into meltdown.
I took over a unallocated vanilla 3dr Lapiz Blue DSG and added 19" Pretoria's, Sat Nav, Dynaudio, Rear View Camera and Keyless in mid November and the car was built week3 this year and was at the dealers pdi centre first week of Feb !!
Something stinks and whoever caused your unacceptable delays needs to compensate you handsomely!!

Good work MH.  Loving the 'not taking any sh!t' attitude with regards VW UK.  But I'm with JB on this one, who cares if the dealership have to take the hit on a goodwill gesture - as long as you get one what does it matter where it comes from.  The dealership may have not been directly responsible for this, quite frankly, shocking wait for a Golf (I honestly don't know how you haven't blown your top after 8 months ) but if they'd pulled their finger out and chased VW then I'm sure you would have got your car sooner than this.  You deserve a massive slice of VW goodwill!

Matchboy: It's a case of if the dealership are blameless, I want to be able to use them in the future, and be able to press for a good level of discount. Not wanting to burn my bridges with them or jeopardise my ability to push for a large level of discount - I don't want to be more trouble than i'm worth to them as a future customer.

It's also good to level the muck flinging further up the chain, you don't normally get the opportunity. When you get those customer satisfaction surveys after picking up your car, it is all aimed at your dealership experience only. They can penalise the dealership (by restricting bonuses tied to customer satisfaction that contribute to the dealership's bottom line), no such set of systems work for VW UK or VW AG unfortunately. They carry on being crap at the timely supply of cars and the customer has no real outlet to voice their opinion to anyone that can change their ways. I'm sure back at VW AG headquarters they all think they are doing a marvelous job, they never hear they opinions of you or I.

If I was buying via a broker I wouldn't care much who's fault it was or who was paying for the goodwill gesture.

Yep,

3 doors and DSG - a double no for my needs. Saw it the other week when I made a detour to Pulman Durham, on the way to Hartlepool to see my cousin....Mick was on holiday. They're holding out for RRP or close to yo. It was on Bridgestone RE050s (yes, I checked )

That's a fair point MH, I understand.  In that case I hope you get somewhere in terms of getting VW UK to take the blame as you're right, they always pass the blame downwards.

Well both weekend VW carrying ships have come in to Tyne and not a 5c or 6 notification in sight. City of Amsterdam on Thurs perhaps? That's 5 ships come in to Tyne from Emden since my car got there. Never known a Tyne car take so long to ship. More fun and games when Ronald mcDonald calls back on Tuesday methinks.
