PCV gone?
« on: 12 May 2015, 18:05 »
Ello. I have a question for anyone thats had a problem with a PCV. My car isnt as responsive as it was. And acceleration has dropped. It seems similar to when my dv split. Except not quite as bad as that.

Ive seen that one of the checks is 2 take off oil filler cap, or dipstick. is it supposed to whistle (sounds like its sucking/blowing air) when ive done that?  Then when that stops ( about a second) starts idling rough. Is this a pcv going/gone? I did check it quite a while ago and i dont remember a whistle.

I will check my DV+ valve anyway make sure bolts are tight spring is good etc.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers

when you take the oil cap off does the engine cough and splutter as if it's going to stall? if yes then the pcv should be ok... if there's not any difference when you take the cap off you might have a faulty pcv and will need replacing.

i had a similar problem with mine and it turned out to be coil packs, went to vw and they replaced all 4 under a recall. that fixed the problem for me, might be worth checking that?

Thanks for the reply
I wouldnt say it sputters but ive only tried the dip stick. Will try that tomorrow.

Ive already had the coil packs done under recall. So im guessing its not that, tho i suppose they could go again.

My car has started to make a whistling noise when idling. I fear it's the PCV however when I did the dip stick/oil cap removal test it idled roughly as if about to stall and it was easy to remove the dip stick/oil cap.

Any ideas what the whistling could be? Cheers
