front strut mounts
« on: 10 May 2015, 17:09 »
Hi All, my golf just got issued a fresh mot with one advisory on the front strut mount - slight movement, the mechanic reckoned tightening it first if not replace in a couple of miles. Can anyone confirm roughly how many exposed threads they have showing to help me determine if it's too lose or just needs replacement?
Thanks
Adam

Just replace it. If it has excessive play then the rubber is perished.... doing the nut up won't change that.

Only problem is they've been on the car a mere 3,000 miles and around 18 months. Hence I asked how many threads just so I could rule that out as I use an impact gun rather than torque wrench. Only other thing was I did buy them through eBay although they we sold as and packaged as febi units

you will always get some movement in them when car is jacked up. try wobbling the top of wheel when car is on ground.if anything is loose you will feel it.
