Idle problem

Hi everyone.. I bought a mk4 1.8t this weekend.. It needs a little bit of work but the main problem is it jumps up and down revs when idling, I know the exhaust is blowing so planning on getting a new one this week does anybody have any ideas what it could be if it's not the blowing exhaust?

Get it scanned for fault codes....
Otherwise it might be a stab in the dark.
Where are you based?

Bit far for me and not heading up that way for work in near future....
See if you can find someone more local to do a full auto scan on all control units for you (

Chances are it's a Throttle Body issue, may need cleaning or just renewing, or it could be as simple as the MAF sensor. Unplugged mine the other day to try a scooby air filter and revs bounced from 300- to 1400 constantly. How bad is the jumping?
