What happens if..?
« on: 24 April 2015, 22:15 »

Hi folks, recently got my new GTI and have two questions I can't find answers to in the manual.

1) With the KESSY system, what happens if the engine start button is pressed while driving? I presume the engine won't stop with the vehicle in motion?

2) With the electronic parking brake, what happens if the button is pulled up (say by a dopey passenger who pulls on the button not realising what it does) while the car is in motion? The manual seems to indicate it will apply the handbrake as it can be used in emergencies for stopping the car. Is that correct?

Not sure about KESSY but the handbrake button doubles as an ejector seat release for dopey passengers.

If you press the start button it asks if you are sure you want to turn the engine off and says press it again to switch off engine.

No idea about the handbrake....but I am curious.

The electronic handbrake will apply the brakes similar to a normal handbrake, tried it on a quiet car park once.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know that the engine won't stop if you accidentally hit the start/stop button.

@Diehammer I must look in to that mod for the passenger ejector seat if they touch the handbrake button.

Kessy - push the button once while in motion and it gives you a message on the screen that if you press it again it will turn the engine off (it will if you press it second time - tried it).

EPB button - pull it up at low speed (iirc below 5 mph) it will activate the EPB, if you're going any faster it will apply approx 75% of full braking power to ALL wheels through your normal brake setup. Quite some deceleration :D

Diehammer: The SEAT EJECTION function for the handbrake button only works if you have enabled Bit 0 on Byte 10 in the control module (see below)

But on my car, I've added the function to my "secret arsenal" buttons which I fitted just above the centre console (see below). These are not standard VW options. But I find that it's particularly important to have the complete suite of extra goodies for those times when my mk7 is pursued by the occasional super-evil villain (will happens remarkably often)!
