The Cupra has the R engine for sure.
A friend of mine has one as a company car (and very nice it is too).
It is just a mildly detuned R engine with torque peaking at the same figure as a GTI but a bit higher in the rev range (due to turbo differences) to keep the front wheels from spinning relentlessly under hard acceleration.
It needs to be run on 98 RON fuel like the R (GTI happy enough on 95) and if you look at tuners graphs you can see it's the same engine once remapped.
