It'll retro fit no problem but it won't work properly due to the component protection.

Actually the component protection isn't the issue any more as people have got around this. The issue is that the nav data is tied to the chassis number and won't function properly after install.

Would a dealer be able to sort it at a later date? Or is it factory only?

Its all technically possible but it seems VW don't want to allow it to happen and its all down their code key system to enable it.

Maybe email them and ask them why they won't assist you to upgrade your car that you bought from them.

It being tied to the chassis is part of the component protection and it still doesn't work properly which is the point really isn't it?

It's differentiating between the equipment being tied to the chassis (which is component protection) and the navigation data being tied to the chassis. Someone (In mainland europe) had a dealer overcome the component protection (which allowed the radio etc to work) but this still left the issue of the nav data not working.

That said, either way it's a non starter - wasn't picking fault with your answer, reading back it might have read that way! ;)

That was me, and it happened to another member. The dealer contacted the factory and was told can't be done. They had to order another car and provide me with a car until the replacement arrived.
