Is it a GTI??
« on: 16 April 2015, 18:36 »
Hey Guys,

I recently bought an X-Reg What I thought was a 2.0 GTi (as this is what it was advertised as and says on the logbook), however I have come to insure it and my insurer is telling me this model doesn't exist and it must be a 2.0L or 1.8L Turbo

The fact it says 2.0 on the back of the car and the engine tells me it's definatly not a 1.8 so that rules that out, and I have checked past MOT which Has no mention of it being a GTi.

How can I tell if it a GTi or not? Is the logs wrong or the Mot papers wrong?

also I have just found the original paperwork and although it's all in German, says it is the Dutch Version of the car and is a Hardline (GT)

Thanks for your help

Ross

Thanks- that's what I thought! Time to try and get some money back from the insurers! They put my car down as a 1.8T

do you think that's because it is the 'Dutch Model' that they don't have the information? What have I bought myself??

Sadly the runt of the litter

The 2.0 was a GTI in name only. In Europe they were never badged as GTI's. They were known as Highlines
