Trying to decide on a service plan

Help my aching brain!

I've been deliberating what to do about sorting out a service plan and can't decide if I'm making things harder for myself or not!  I can have a 2 year plan with my local VW dealer which gives me 2 services (minor and major), however I can get a 3 year plan from my supplying VW dealer that includes 3 services (2 minor, 1 major, and an MOT) and the cost over the 3 years will work our £200 cheaper as I would obviously need to add a 3rd year service and MOT onto my local dealers offering.

The only snag is that the supplying dealer is a 100 mile round trip, the local option is 20 miles at the most.  I then wondered about going with the supplying dealer and doing the yearly 100 mile trip for servicing and using my local dealer for any potential warranty work.  Do you think that one would be funny about the other should I need work carrying out?  I don't want to get caught doing 100 miles for an issue when I can take it down the road so too speak!

I did start another thread asking about Inchcape VW which was helpful, they seem good enough, the supplying dealer is from a different group.

Warranty work gets paid by VW UK not the supplying dealer, so it does not matter where you service it as long as you are in VW UK warranty as long as it's carried out to VW UK standards.

Already have it, I looked on the VW site but I was told that I could only have had something like that at the time of purchase

I'm torn on the service plans available now - it was so easy when you got a 3 year service pack for £199. Now though there are 2 choices, which one to get really depends on how long you might keep the car:-

1. Get the £149 2 year/20k miles pack and then expect to pay big money (probably £500 between services 3 and 4 which will include brake fluid change for service 3, any Haldex fluid changesat 4 years?) if keeping it for 40k+ miles or 4 years. For me, this would involve taking out finance to get it and then cancel within 14 days. All in probably over £600 if keeping it 4 years.

2. Do the £15.99pm service scheme right up to 4 years/40k miles, will cost £575.64. Do you have to state how long you are keeping the car upfront, or could you say start the payment scheme and decide "i'm only going to keep this car to the point it will need 2 paid for services, therefore I will do 18 x £15.99 and stop"?

If I was keeping the car for less than 29k miles, option 1 would definitely be the cheapest option, but do I need to tie myself to a long stint on option 2 on the offchance I might keep this car a long while?

I have got a 3 yr 199 one. Its apparently come back into force then? My dealer told me it was this quarters new deal so maybe go back and investigate?

Any literature I read on it said I had to get the service plan on or before the day of actually signing the finance documents for the car. However when I spoke to my dealer about this on pick up day he told me not to worry as they could still put it through a good bit after collecting the car.

I will have to look into that, the website is still only showing the £149/2 years or £15.99pm option, although we all know the website isn't always up to date or accurate.

You can jump on the £15.99pm deal a good while after collecting the car (90 days?) because you don't start paying for it until the car is 6 months old. The fixed price (£149/199) pack has to be added before payment/finance finalised/collection.

I did see that option, I'm over 90 days old though as it was pre-registered.  Shame
