Engine Oil 5w30 & 5w40 - is it ok to mix?
« on: 12 April 2015, 14:23 »
So to keep this brief I bought a 5l bottle of this from Amazon a few months back and have just actually noticed on the bottle it is 5W-40.

I have now checked my order and basically they have sent the wrong one I ordered the 5w30 but have only just realised.

Anyway this HAS been going in the car thus the oil is now a little mixed is this anything to be that worried about? I.e. should I be getting it flushed or stop using it and buy the correct spec oil or just crack on not a major issue?

Not a problem. I've done the same in the past.

Shouldn't be that much of an issue however i would start using 05/30 oil for top ups - Tesco normally has 1ltr for £12.

it would not be an issue at all. the difference is so slight, and with the weather temps increasing at this time of year a slightly thicker oil would protect engine better under hard use.
