plastic cover under bonnet
« on: 11 April 2015, 19:15 »
I have been given a nice old Mk2 Gti 8v by my brother so I want to start doing work on it ( ..and it needs quite a bit ). I am no mechanic so I am going to start with the simple bits. I cant seem to find a manual to download so I am looking for a replacement for the plastic cover underneath the bonnet which I presume covers the wiper motors.

I 'think' I found a few on ebay but they seemed ( to me ) very expensive at £60+

Is there anywhere else I can get one of these..I dont mind a used one as anything is better than the one that is on now.

Is it called the scuttle panel ?

Thanks

Wow didn't know they were that expensive. If second hand people are charging that I would imagine pattern parts are not really available. I just checked vwheritage and they don't seem to have anything. Sooo I would either:

1) Find someone locally who is breaking a mk2 and take the bit you need. I would imagine that it s cheaper option as they are less likely to know its value.

2) repair the one you have using fibreglass
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

Is it the hard plastic panel that sits just after the wipers in the engine bay? There is another smaller piece that covers the ECU. Best bet is to finding someone breaking a mk2 or VW breakers.

Part numbers are 192905399A is the small piece and 192819415C the water deflector.

Have to find A local one they are made from the worlds most brittle form of plastic. Not something you can really post. Definitely sort stuff like that first though as without that bit of plastic water runs down the centre and through your blower rather than being channeled to the edges were the gutter is.
