Minging MK7 GTD gets a good wash
« on: 07 April 2015, 11:09 »
Don't normally post in here so here goes. Thought I’d put some pictures up of a detail I did a couple of weeks ago on my late 2013 MK7 GTD.

Usual cleaning methods, TBM with grit guards, Megs Shampoo plus and wookie wash mitt. Wheels liberally sprayed with Bilberry wheel cleaner. Megs APC used with a detailing brush in the small crevices and badges.

Then de-tarred with Autosmart Tardis and then given a liberal spray of Iron-X to get rid of all the fall out contamination (which on a white car is quite noticeable). Washed again, and dried with waffle drying towels and my metro jet baster on the wheels.

Paintwork was pretty good so no correction just 2 coats of C2V3, alloy wheels polished with AF Tripple, tyres dressed with Megs Ultimate tyre dressing. Finally windows polished with Fast Glass and the interior given a good hover and the plastics just wiped over with a damp microfibre towel.

So, onto the results (no before’s I’m afraid but it was proper minging).

Fantastic job soothchucker

Don't you find you wished you'd taken some before pics just so you can look back and revel in the satisfaction of a job well done, after all that effort.

How do you find the Metro Blaster?  Which model is it? I have this on my detailing 'wish list' so any feedback would be great

If you have any detailing favs or recommendations, perhaps you'd like to take a virtual stroll to this thread and pop them in there.  Thanks

Thanks all. Rebecca, yes, I kicked myself afterwards and you could have written your name in the paint work and in the black paint on the alloys, it was that dirty - oh well next time.

As to the metro blaster I only have the small portable one (the Sidekick), but I use it all the time for drying the alloys as a) they are quite a difficult design to get dry with microfibres only as some water drips will always appear, and b) with the black paint on the alloys, I wanted to reduce marring which this seems to have done to a pretty good extent.

It's very powerful for its size, and probably could be used for the whole car but I think the bigger one is best. It's fantastic for drying the honeycomb grills though on any mark of GTI / GTD, as these are an absolute ba5s*rd to dry off

Thanks Sootchucker, it was the bigger one I was thinking of getting, not the mega deluxe one, but the Metro Vac Air Force Blaster@£199.  I want it for all those annoying water traps - alloy grooves, wing mirrors etc and also because the water here is very hard, so the sooner it's off a black car the better.  Mind you I also want the Metro Vac vacuum and a Raceglaze Water Filter     It's not so much a detailing wish list, more a manifesto!

My young daughter wrote her name in the dirt on my car last week and was given a severe talking to, mainly bourne out of the guilt of having such a filthy car

Ha, I've recently started taking 'before' pics.  How sad is that  :embarrassed:

Looks class that sootchucker. Can't beat a clean car, bet white stays clean for only just a bit longer than black though!

The sidekick is a great bit of kit, I wouldn't be without mine now and use it on every wash!

That looks great Sootchucker, and really good reflections.

I've also been thinking of getting a Metro Vac. Fed up with the water drips from those hard to dry places, especially with living in a hard water area, so it's interesting to hear yours and Neil's views. The Sidekick also gets good reviews on Clean Your Car;

The two best items I've brought to assist with the drying process is the sidekick and demon shine rinse aid. The sidekick is great for wheels and mirrors but I use it on the whole car and then drying is really easy.

I've just this evening ordered the Metro Vac Sidekick from cleanyourcar.  The reviews are great, and on reading them decided this will do for my needs over the more powerful version, which is over twice the price.  Can't wait for it to arrive.

Now got to start saving for the vacuum.
