« on: 06 April 2015, 20:34 »
Just after a few local places to get Monza Shadows refurbished as there are a few scuffs (1 which was my doing ) and also after some opinions on new tyres as the fronts will be need replacing soon enough ...

Also VW mentioned that my rear pads were at 75% not worried yet, and Air con recharge around the west midlands, Gloucester area.

Man this is going to be an expensive few months!!

Continental Sport Contact 5p's are also a great tyre, wet and dry. The downside is poor rim protection, they do a version with a rim protector but it's still minimal.  Shame as can't fault the tyre otherwise.

Not local but Lepsons do free p&p on diamond cut refurbs

I can recommend a company called 'pristine alloy wheels' http://www.pristinealloywheels.co.uk based in milton keynes. They will collect the alloys from you, repair them and then re-deliver them to you, all included within the price. I sent my 17" monza alloys (Non diamond cut version) from my polo 6R GTI to them, had the diamond cut with gloss black internals and they came back looking fantastic. Cost me about £350 for all 4 and thats collection and delivery included. Great set of people and only took them a week from pick up point to being back on my car.

As for tyres, I'm in a similar situation to yourself, need all 4 replacing and I've pretty much decided on going for the conti sport 5s. Seems to be one of the best rated tyres about, for a good price also.

Tyre choice is such a personal choice and everyone has different expectations and requirements. Whether that choice is vaue for money, performance or recommendation by another. Take the advice on here and take your pick. I'm running michelin pilot super sport on the rear and waiting another month or 2 before swapping the fronts for these also.

The choice is yours, just make it a decent one and not some dodgy brand that will leave you in a ditch.

+1 for the conti 5's on my second sets on the front and think there great. Alloy protection wise just watch the kerbs ha ha, had my car 5 years now and never caught any of the rims!

Refurb wise heard about all of the above, when I get mine done (white worm damage) think I'll use Lepsons!

Wish I could say the same.  Must be my sh!t parking

I'm also on my second set on the front, got 13k miles out of the first set, which is about average for conti 5s.  Out of interest Jimmy how many miles did you get from your first set?

I'd put Michelins on. I have run them for years and only had other tyres on the car due to car being new. Just wearing out some Goodyears  which I have swapped from the back to front. They have done 20,000 miles and still have 5mm on. I think they are made out of concretse!

Now they are on the front the car is horrible, understeer made worse when its wet, traction light on whereas with Michelin's its a rare occurrence.

Can't wait to chuck them, nasty.

JayGTD, in what way do you find them an improvement over the conti 5s?

I'm considering a replacement set of tyres in case my R comes with Bridgestones (which it no doubt will) and I can't get on with them (based on past poor experience).
