Cloth cleaning
« on: 05 April 2015, 09:02 »
Ok, so I did my first wash, Polish and wax of my new GTD. I've lost track of what towels I used for what.. Does everyone wash all cloths each time?
I'll need to wash them all this time, but was just curious what everyone else's cloth routine was?

Yep I wash my towels and cloths after every car clean.  Don't use fabric softener, and preferably non-bio washing powder/liquid but that's taking it to the extreme

I wash anything that's been used for products with an oily residue, tyre dressing, wax applicator pads etc, separately to my drying and buffing towels/cloths, some by hand.  wash mitts (lambswool), Wheel Woolies also get hand washed.

No fabric softner?  What's the thinking behind this?
Not that I do the washing or even know if Mrs P puts fabric softner in  But thats a different story.

Well I'm not an expert on laundry (or am I, seem to spend a lot of time doing it), but all the care instructions of almost every towel and micro fibre I've bought (that's quite a few) have stated not to use fabric conditioner/softener, and to use non bio.  The instructions do state the reason but I've chucked the labels away.  Iirc, I think it's because conditioner/softener coats the fibres in something which affects the absorbency of the towel or cloth.  :nerd:

Cheers. I thought absorbency had to be in there somewhere.

If I'm wanting mine done that way I'll have to wait till I have an empty otherwise my claim of not being able to use a washing machine will be busted

Haha, you know we know you know how to use the machine

Separating  coloured from whites, well that's much more technical and requires a woman's intuition.  I have sole charge of our washing machine and don't hear HWMBO complaining

it's all to do with looking after the microfibre, we don't recommend using anything but there are dedicated MF cleaners that you can add to the wash.
