iv got a 1600 driver with single weber carb and piper cam, it now idles at 1.5k-2k now, the choke is fine and doesnt stay on so can't think why else it could be, could too much fuel be being used as it seems to be running rich

According to my Haynes manual there are a couple of things that is could be;
Check the fast Idle cam on the carburettor
Slow running adjusment screw
Injection pump capcacity
Vaccuum line.
If the vac line is off the carb or air box it'll idle like a b!tch, trust me it's did on mine.

its a weber carb tho, not teh standard pierberg so i dont have most of that lol, just a simple carb

In that case, there are only two adjustment screws, near the piece of metal stamped solex (shoul be a PIC carb), reduce the idle speed with the large screw ( you may need to remove the carb to do this)
