Well best to get it sorted asap then hopefully you can get on and enjoy the car

Just had the call, they are stripping out the dashboard in search for it. No good

Nooo!

Think I'd rather live with the rattle, than them take the dash apart!

I agree. Don't go down that road as it is torturous. They will make things worse as you might end up with other more serious problems.

Does the rattle happen at about 1500rpm in sport mode? If so I think it's the sound aktuator. Might save them destroying your dash...

Before they rip your dash apart and destroy it, get them to check that the Soundaktor is properly tied down. A couple of R owners had to do this as they also had a vibration/rattle at idle.

Little Update,

Picked up a silver DSG GTI courtesy car (looks no where near as good as CSG) on friday morning, had no word from the dealer and go back to uni tomorrow.

I never thought id have a strong feeling with the DSG, i just feel like it makes the car feel slow?? mine felt so punchy and with the dsg whether its a smooth drive or what it just doesn't feel as powerful, weird feeling actually!!

Anyway I'm taking my replacement to uni for this week and ill be back friday, hoping that they have it found and fixed by then.

It'll be interesting to see how the DSG grows on you over the week.

I'm of the same opinion as you with it but, like yourself, I've not spent a huge amount of time driving them.
A friend of mine had a GTD DSG for a few days and when I drove it I thought it didn't drive anywhere as near as nicely as the manual GTD's I'd driven, the DSG made the car feel like it had much less torque.
Then my friend took the wheel, banged the DSG into Sport and within a few minutes he demonstrated things I'd never been able to do in a manual GTI never mind a manual GTD.
The thing is, that was absolutely flat out and once back into normal driving I didn't like it again.
