Posting a Car Battery

Hi Folks,

Hoping for some advice here. So last week I bought a new battery from Ebay for £45.00 (inc delivery). Was a good price as the equvilent was £60 from euros.

Anyways, the battery they sent me had a plastic mould plug which was broken off and had been reacting with a leaking substance from the negative vent hole? As soon as I opened the box and touched the battery it was wet.

Anyways, contacted the seller who said to return the battery and they will refund me. After checking Royal Mails website, it appears they don't allow battery in their post system. Pacel force are looking at £20+ postage.

Any suggestions, as Im not sure if the seller with reimburse me the £20+ on top of the refund. Was annoyed with the battery as they listed it as a fitting for 1.8ts. But by the looks of things it may be a battery which requires a vent set up?  Excide EB620 is the battery (027 type).

And since it was broken when it arrived any respectable seller will pay the return postage. It's not like you just changed your mind.

People like ECP manage. Although they use very good couriers (UPS) and package them very well. For this battery to be broken like this it sounds like it was packaged in a paper bag...

I am sorry the item has leaked, you may be able to top this up with distilled water. Do you know if the battery has lost much and if it holds its charge when charging

Pretty much. Thin carboard box, the battery was taped, no bubble wrap or that.

You just need to buy from the right people. As said, I have bought batteries from ECP before and they are fantastic. Normally arrive the next day and in perfect condition. Good price too. Sometimes their sister company Carparts4less is cheaper on batteries, but they all come from the same warehouse. The CP4L even comes in ECP packaging
