Newbie having a great day. Thanks to this site.
« on: 25 March 2015, 15:54 »
Hi i recently bought a cat c golf gti. I got some money knocked off due to the fact there was some rust coming through on the wing.
I joined this site and read about the 12 year anti corrosion warranty on the car. As its a cat c i didn't expect any joy
but i thought i would give it a go.
I took my car along to VW in Manchester and after an inspection of the wing  they approved it for a new wing free of charge.

Great result.

I would highly recommend any one with a car under 12 years of age to give it a go.

This isn't exactly a warranty claim... There was a bit of a design flaw which caused some insulating foam to rub the wing and cause premature rusting to form. VW normally offer a 50% good will gesture towards labour and a free wing, but you've got a good local dealer who's been kind to you. Probably for saving a written off car from the scrap pile.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Im all about getting it as mint as i can. Standard but mint. Maybe stretch to an air filter. Might colour code everything like the edition 30. The wheels were powder coated by the previous owner to the tune of 5 ton. There like new. Cant find a receipt for a cam belt so that's booked in for the 9th. Vw are putting a new wing on on the 11th. There is a new screen going in on Tuesday cos there's a crack in the other one. Then i will enjoy it for a month or 2 till the bank balance refills a bit.
A new set of mats wouldn't go a miss. Its got some sad red lined ones in it.

when the wings done the car is mint. Ive been round it and polished it so i know every inch of it.
It s got 65000 miles with full service history.
The car was written off due to panel damage. Then bought back by owner, hence it has its history and both
keys with it then repaired.
It was up for £5650 witch is already cheap for one with this mileage.
I got him down to £4800.
It drives like new.
I would argue anyone would be hard pushed to pick up a mint golf for that sort of money.
I know the crack with cat c and d cars. As i own another one. As long as its been repaired well its fine.
Most cars on the road have had work done on them. The only issue is
getting people to come view it when its time to sell.
But my cars are always mint, and im sure when its time to sell. It will go.
I feel the other owner has taken most of the hit. On the price.
