Engine variants - I am Confused!
« on: 24 March 2015, 18:04 »
I have a 2006 Golf GTI and was thinking of buying a PCV kit from Demon Tweakes (to replace/blank off the PCV valve) and notice that it states it is only for the EA113 engine.

Not sure which engine variant I have and seen mention of BWA, AXX, EA113 & EA888.

Are these all different types of engine and is there an easy way of determining which version I have?

 :embarrassed:

it should be in the handbook where all the vin details are, should also be a stamp somewhere in the engine bay with it on.

i was also thinking about doing the pcv, but one from revo. after a lot of digging about on the forums a lot of other people recommend sticking with the latest oem part

The V5 says it is BWA and, on further investigation, I think this is a sub-species of the EA113 engine!

By the way, what was the general reasoning for sticking with the PCV valve rather than blanking it off?

The engine code is located on the left hand side of the engine itself (as you look from the front) on the cam chain cover.

I'd really advise against a blanking plate for the PCV system, seen more than enough cases of internal engine pressure exceeding limits and causing all kinds of issues. If it's operating normally, leave it or replace it with the latest revision unit;

If you really want to go all out though, implement an oil catch can system, although they are a few hundred pounds but are the best of both worlds. No oil into the combustion while maintaining internal pressures. :smiley:

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Does anyone have any experience of fitting this kit?

I am a reasonable DIY-er and willing to try fitting myself. The only thing that worries me is fitting the "breather tube with internal check valve" - is this the pipe that you can see on top of engine, connected to PCV valve or is it one that is located at back of engine that is tricky to reach?
