Noisy air con.
« on: 23 March 2015, 19:23 »
Out in the GTI yesterday & noticed the air con has started to get a bit noisy? ,making a sort of whirring sound from the vents?. Bit vague I know but any body else had a similar problem please?. Have a warranty with the dealer so not too worried just after a bit of advice before I go down there. Thanks.

Everything still works fine,hot/cold etc. Car is just 3 years old so an air con service won't do any harm.

I would also recommend using aircon all the time. My wife had her car serviced yesterday and she had the aircon done at a cost of £69.99. That was from skoda so I would think vw would be about the same cost. Her cars 2 years old

I experienced something similar last year (car was 4 years old at the time) so asked VW to investigate whilst in for service & MOT.
When A/C is switched on it made a whining sound.

It turned out to be compressor unit (or something similar) which, and to my surprise, they replaced for free leading me to question whether this is a known issue....

No harm in checking this possibility with your local stealer...?

Glad you got it sorted, mines still making the same noise. Rang my local useless dealer to book it in, "oh can we take your name and number and we're get back to you" Well I'm still waiting!

Quick update. It's playing up again, not blowing cold now . Went to the dealers the other day & they tested the temperature & when it was set at 18 the actual temp was 24.5 & climbing so it's booked in again for further work. Must be some sort of leak in the system. Garage have been great, very apologetic for all the trouble just a bit of a pain now the weather is warming up.
