From one GTI to another
« on: 22 March 2015, 11:32 »
Well, after posting about what I considered poor build quality in this thread:

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=272973.0

I have now swapped my original pre-registered GTI for an alternative. I therefore drove in this car with a thousand miles on the clock:

And drove out in this one with twenty miles on the clock:

I've lost the PAN roof and Dynaudio but have gained metallic paint and the Performance Pack. Love the car in Reflex Silver and can't believe there are so few around. Handover wasn't exactly smooth with the new car not available and when it did eventually turn up one of the mirrors was scratched and there was also a mark on one of the doors. Dealer agreed a further £500 off, a free tank of fuel and for the problems to be sorted locally to where I live. This includes me simply ordering some R caps if that's one of my preferred options. Considering some chrome ones for a subtle upgrade and then perhaps getting mine sprayed black / wrapped for the Carbon Fibre look.

Initial impressions are that the car is much better screwed together than my last one and even the ride quality feels different. It also feels much more responsive with 5k RPM coming round much more quickly. I've therefore hopefully made the right move.

And another shot of it sitting in the sun at the supermarket:

Wow I'm not usually a fan of silver cars, but that looks lush

Hope you have more luck with the new car mate

A bit of an unfortunate experience but it looks to have ended well.
How does it feel going from Pano roof to normal tin top?
The brakes on the PP are really good, you'll soon appreciate those.

Silver looks really good on a mk7 but seems to be a rare colour which is a shame. Ten years ago every other car was silver but few are sold in this colour at the moment.
I saw a lease spec R in silver the other day and thought it looked subtle but really good. The silver contrasts well with the dark trim and also shows off the red line on the GTI to good effect. On the silver R the standard seats looked like they were designed for matching with silver paint too.

Fingers crossed your experience with this GTI will be a lot more positive.

Thanks for the positive comments.

I have to be honest and say I haven't even really noticed the lack of sunroof. This is probably due to the fact that I had the blind closed most of the time on the old car! I do think the Pan Roof looks really good on the lighter coloured cars but I don't think I'm going to miss it.

I think the same applies to the Dynaudio. I just don't think I play my tunes loud enough to appreciate just how good it is. I think I'm therefore going to be fine with the standard system.
