@joe, I found the gtd tight when travelling anywhere with buggy, bags etc but with the extra room in the mk7 and being able to drop the boot depth you'll be ok in a 5 door I reckon.
That's true alright in the GTI Damo, but if I were to go to the R, the boot floor isn't adjustable! Unless you take the spare out!

The boot in the R is smaller alright. But where there's a will there's a way

Thinking of getting a new golf myself. Is there much room for manoveour with the dealers compared to the website prices?

Not really in my experience. Are you trading a car in? If you are trading a car in some might be a bit more generous on the trade in value they'll give for your car. The only true way of gauging what discount you're getting is to visit more than one dealer and compare the 'cost to change' figures.

If you are buying as a straight deal with no trade in, they seem to have a bit more scope to discount, but only a couple of percent.

Yeah don't expect any great deals on a VW. The standard spec is generous now along with the freebie tech pack, but there's little room for negotiation on the prices.
My dealer told me that the margins are as small for them on an R as they are on a bog spec Golf, whether you can believe that or not.

I did as the guys advised and shopped around to get the best price. I ended buying the car in Louth and I'm from Mayo. The straight price discount varied from garage to garage but the trade cost of change very similar. With the big discount on the R this year I reckon the margins are tight alright
