And I don't even mean the complicated stuff. I am constantly staggered by how little most people know about their cars. And I'm far from an expert. Sat in my office listening to someone explain how:
1) If your car judders when performing an emergency stop, it means you DONT have ABS/it's turned off/broken
2) If you pull the handbrake when driving it might snap (snap what!? Are you the hulk?)
3) The reason you skid when pulling the handbrake is because your rear wheels want to overtake the front, because the front brakes jam on when you pull the handbrake and the rear wheels keep going.
4) One of them then asked if you pull the handbrake to perform an emergency stop (did you do a test?!?!)
5) It was then concluded that emergency stops are stupid, and nobody should ever do one, not even in an emergency.....
I didn't want to say anything because the woman doing the talking terrifies me. It feels like most of this should have been ironed out on the first lesson or two, but apparently not.
