Aum 1.8T problem
« on: 12 March 2015, 15:18 »
I have been getting a tappy noise sounds like cam chain when the engines cold, as soon as it starts to warm up its stops, so today i swapped the cam chain tensioiner with another one i had in another engine, and it made no difference at all, i did notice that there was groves on the head where the chain has been hitting when cold, the engine has full vw service history and its done 94k ive had the car for 2 years, i brought it with 80k on it, its made the noise from when i brought it, i also dropped the sump and replaced the oil pick up pipe too, it wasnt blocked and theres hardly any sludge either, has anyone had this problem too? like i said soon as the engine starts to warm up it stops and sounds sweet as a nut, but if i turn the engine off even when hot for a about ten seconds the noise reappears untill i drive it, any info will be much appreciated

I've serviced the car (oil and filter) 3 times in 14k using genuine parts and oil from tps, doesn't make a difference, I also had a two codes that would pop up here now and again witch was P0012 and P0011camshaft A (intake)retard set point not reached (over advanced) and camshaft A (intake) advance setpoint not reached (over retarded) I cleared them a few times and they never came back

have you replaced the sensor on the side of where the timing chain cover is? it does sound like its not measuring properly giving you the codes
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

The camshaft position sensor? Yeah I've replaced that too that was one of the first things I did when I got the code
