Auto Lights - Staying on during the day?
« on: 27 February 2015, 08:27 »
Noticed a few days when i went under an underpass a warning flashed up that there was a problem with the auto lights, It disappeared straight away and I never really thought anything of it as I've not seen it again.

Now it seems that my lights are coming on automatically even in bright daylight anyone had this or is it needing its first trip to the dealers?

Over the past week or two I have noticed the same error flashing up at me on my dashboard.  It states 'Fault Automatic Headlight Control'.  I am guessing it is a dodgy sensor or some other minor fault.  I have tried placing a cloth over the sensor on the windsrcreen to force it to reappear and it does sometimes, but not all the time.  However both when the fault appears and does not appear on the dashboard the lights seem to be working correctly in regards to auto headlights coming on when the sensor is covered and going back off leaving only the daylights when the cloth is removed from the sensor.

To cut a long story short it is niggling me seeing a possible fault flashing up on the dash even if there isn't one?  So I have booked my car in to the dealer to get the car checked over and see if they can sort it out.

Will let  you know the conclusion of what the fault was on my car after I have took it in to the dealer on Wednesday.

I'm sure I've read it also reads light from the back and not just the front light sensor.
Which would make sense as I've seen me driving towards a setting sun in the summer and being absolutely dazzled by light but the auto setting has triggered my lights on!!

It's the other way round for me in both of my cars. Low sun behind me, even tho' the ambient light levels are still high, the lights come on, which is how it should be as it's good practice to turn your lights on when oncoming drivers are struggling to see.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

If there are sensors in the back, where abouts would they be our of interest?

Either way I think I should take the car in to the dealer whilst the car is under warranty etc,.
