Car turning but won't start.

Hi all, new here!

I own a lovely Golf TDi 2007 1.9. It's never let me down, until recently.  3 weeks ago it struggled to start in the morning until it gave up and wouldn't start at all. I can only get it to start with jump leads.

Done a battery test, nothing wrong with the battery. It was in the garage for 2 weeks, starter motor replaced, fuel pump replaced, glow plugs are fine, nothing was coming up on the computer. The garage took it to a vw specialist and later fixed the issue and told the garage it was to do with a pump in the engine, they don't let on too much of how they fixed it or what the problem was as they don't like giving their secrets away .. How stupid.

Anyway, I got it back last Friday, worked great for the weekend, struggled through the week but eventually started, and then yesterday morning I had to jump start it again for it to run and it's now back in the garage to go back to the specialist tomorrow.

Any ideas?

Is it still the first battery?

My battery paseed every check under the sun

Then it gave up without warning and I couldn't jump start it. New battery sorted the issue and the garage should have at least tried a new one before replacing other items

Garage said it's definitely not the battery, I've mentioned the battery many times but they've said if it was the battery then the engine won't turn, although he was surprised when I told him yesterday it would start via jump leads.   I've had the battery tested myself and the feedback says the battery is fine. Yes it's still on its first battery. I'd hope it wouldn't be the battery now as I've already forked out nearly £300!

8 yo battery would be my first guess. That's about how long they last now, and yes it may still crank it but not fast enough for sufficient compression.

Mine was just over 7 years old. The testing in the garage plus cold weather killed it off

£50 for a new one and it starts on the money

Unless they got a supa dupa battery tester then its unlikely to pick up a dead / dying cell.  My mate works for a bus company and even their £2k battery tester can't reliably tell them if a battery is fooked
