Good / bad garages - your recommendations
« on: 20 February 2015, 21:14 »
Given the long list of problems I have had with my golf, I thought it would be interesting to see what garages you would recommend and which you would recommend to avoid.

The good - Robinsons Norwich : long standing issue with rattle behind the dash fixed in 1 visit, where other dealer said I needed a new turbo..replaced my clutch and flywheel in 1 day and all under warranty. Even given a bottle of champagne because they kept my car overnight.

The good - breeze Poole : excellent service on every visit, very efficient even when asked for multiple test drives.

The bad - Robinsons lowestoft: most incompetent dealer I have ever walked into. 3 attempts to replace vertical part of spoiler. Let waiting on multiple occasions over 30mins.
Advised after 4 attempts at fixing the dash rattle that I needed a different turbo( non warranty at £1500) to stop the rattle.
The list is massive for how poor this garage is....AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Ahh, you see Breeze Poole, I'd put in the good 30% and bad list 70%

Sales the 1st time round were great, Bought a MK5 GT TDI, couldn't fault them, Steve Sanders was great, communication was excellent, car was ready when they said it was going to be...5*

Service however left a bitter taste, the staff didn't know what they were talking about, prices fluctuated from person to person,  oily marks over the bodywork, had to go back numerous times after servicing for rectification. A day after I picked it up, the brake pad warning light came on, so took it back, they say it comes on at 75% worn and pads should be replaced...when I told them that I'd only picked it up the previous day and that then visual check on the pads should of highlighted this, they told me the pads were ok to keep driving on...hmmm

Anyways, sales the 2nd time, when I went to trade in the car, figured seeing as a Steve was good the 1st time round, I'd give him my time, he was ok, but more pushy the previous time, put me off a little,

I've only used 2 vw dealers, so my good award goes to Heritage Volkswagen in Dorchester, I've always got on so well with them, Graham Park, one of the service guys up there, is brilliant, so knowledgeable, always there for advice on my older VWs, Janet, again, always welcoming with a smile, very knowledgeable

Hope this helps

I think most here will have a favourite dealership and some will have been stung by poor service previously which may have them driving a little further for their aftersales because their local one has let them down.

I've had 3 very bad experiences with the Benfield group over the years, but been fine with Pulman (excusing the fact they left some transport pucks in the front shocks of my GTD at PDI). Others might not have had a bad experience there.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

With breeze I only went in for the sale which they were excellent with the advice etc as you say. Shame to here the servicing side wasn't up to standard
