8v or 16v or 8v and 16v?

Right, I've been having a look around forums, regarding clutches and clutch plates, for the 2.0l bottom end 1.8 head combo... the most commonly practiced it would appear is using a 16v pressure plate with an 8v clutch disc, Sachs or Luk gets the votes. So I'm currently tearing out what little hair I have left at trying to find the items sold individually, and it's just not happening!!! I cant get a NEW Sachs clutch kit for the 8v for £70, plate and disc, so am I just better off saving myself from baldness and going with the 8v Sachs setup, or do i risk an early grave from the stress of trying to source the 16v plate and the 8v disc separately? Anyone know where you can source them individually without getting robbed for buying them individually? Any help may just save my hair loss!!

I have the same head bottom end combo, I used a Luk 8v kit and it works a treat, I'm also using the mk2 gearbox tho. I use mine to commute and to drive around like a hooligan never had a problem been on for around 4000 miles so far.

I could be wrong here but to my knowledge the only difference there is between a 16v and 8v clutch is the friction plate and this is because the 16v box has a larger input shaft.
I'd just a decent 8v kit.

Yep I abuse mine regularly, just balance the hooliganism with good quality oil and keeping it highly maintained  :wink:
