Who ticked all the boxes?
« on: 17 February 2015, 09:03 »
Just curious after writing my last post about DCC.... who would like to claim to having a full house or close to full house options list?

There must be someone on here with 30k's of options :)
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro

Having a quick scan through the VW used car section - it's surprising how many GTI's are way into £30k plus territory which is bang in the middle of R pricing. Then again it's surprising how many R's are around the £40k mark (or just under) which to me is mad money for a Golf. But at the end of the day people must buy these so they're out there amongst us!
I guess to someone with heaps of cash who has several cars and has a GTI as a small runabout bought solely because it's a Golf GTI (badge buying) then they'll think little of loading up on the options.
Even if the GTI depreciates £15k in its first year I guess that'll seem low in the grand scheme of things compared to their Range Rover which probably lost more than double that amount...
‘25 8.5R, ‘23 8R, ‘20 8CS, ‘19 135iX, ‘19 TCR, ‘17 Ed40, ‘17 GTD, ‘15 7R, ‘13 GTI PP, ‘11 GTI, ‘09 GTI, ‘98 Ibiza Cupra, ‘05 GTI, ‘06 Polo GTI, ‘04 GT TDI, ‘05 Fabia vRS, ‘02 GTI T, ‘03 Ibiza TDI 130, ‘01 Leon 180, ‘89 mk2 16v, ‘99 Ibiza TDI, ‘96 VR6, ‘98 Ibiza TDI, ‘92 VR6, ‘88 mk2 8v, ‘92 Polo G40, ‘91 mk2 8v, ‘89 mk2 8v, 205 GTI 1.9, ‘83 mk1 GTI, ‘80 Scirocco GTI, plus some others I’ve forgotten

You're right... £40k for a Golf when you could have this instead?

For me, no competition... I'd do that and buy a cheap run-about for the mundane stuff

Same question tbh with anyone loading a car? Why add 5k's of extras to a Fiesta when you could buy a Focus for the same money...

Usually, because people want a X sized car but with toys rather than a Y sized one.

As for GTI vs R... well, again, I might want Sat Nav or Leather rather than 300bhp and 25mpg. If money was no object I'd have them all, but we all make choices...

I was well on the way to ticking all the boxes !

Discover Navigation Pro
Keyless
Leather
Winter Pack
Climate Windscreen
Advanced Telephone Prep
DCC

What would I do again if re-ordering ?
Nav Pro - not worth the money, was sold it on the basis of it having Carnet - wasn't happy when it arrived, and its not available in UK

Keyless - Love it, would definitely order again, so user friendly when you have shopping bags or kids.

Leather - Would order again, but CERTAINLY not worth what VW charge, should be half the price at least.

Winter Pack - annoyed, as this actually comes free with leather !! so would not order again

Climate Windscreen - Would sort of order again - but see below, all cars should come with this, even if it's only used a dozen times a year or so.

Advanced Telephone Prep - NO NO NO !!!! just unnecessary, why this was forced on me is beyond me, I use an iPhone 5S and not once have I used the cradle in the arms rest for the phone, it works wherever you have it in the car, even at the weekend, cleaning car on drive a phone was in the house, and still I picked up Bluetooth perfectly !!

DCC - wouldn't order again, yes you can tell the difference between modes, but mine spends 99% of its time in normal, and the ride is great, much better than the mk6 gtd (I'm only on 18" std wheels)

All in all though, I've had the car 17 months, and I would get rid of it if I could, it's been nothing but a pain since I picked it up - I honestly had the car 10 minutes after collecting it, when every warning light came on, and it was back into the garage for nearly 3 weeks ! since then, one daft little problem after another, which all add up, and to top it off - it's a GTD and I get on average 36mpg driving like a nun ! - Feel totally let down by VW and the dealer - and will probably never own another unless I go for the R when mine is back at the dealers again next week................

Nuggsy: No cause to reject at this stage? Sounds like you got a lemon, chances are another would be pretty much fine. If you’re only getting 36mpg get them to reject the GTD and leave you in it while an R gets built for you. Agree on the ridiculous pricing and quality/usefulness of some of the options you have there (that’s why I rarely partake in extras beyond paint and sometimes wheels).

Pulman or Benfield for dealer?
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

That's definitely not right unless you are properly hooning it every time you go out... or drive just to the end of the road and back...

When I ordered the car, it was to be a kept for around the next 7-8 years so hence I thought I would load it with the toys I wanted, in hindsight, and change of job, It will be going asap !
It's definitely a Friday afternoon built car !

Car is used to travel to and from work, (Durham to Gateshead) around 14 miles each way, and driven like a nun, (in normal mode) normal traffic driving varying on speeds of 30 - 50mph - and I don't have loads of dead bodies in the boot !

The wheel upgrade is a complete rip off. £1000 and it's not as if you get to keep the 18's as well.

The tyres would retail at around £20 more each corner and the wheels, lets say £50 to be generous. So if VW were to charge £300 for the upgrade to 19's I think it would be more like it, but £1000??? Really???
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
