Bad luck comes in 3s
« on: 15 February 2015, 19:12 »
So a sh!te week just carries on. Firstly my nipper ends up in hospital for two days with a gastro virus days before our holiday. Thankfully she getting better but that's not luck.

Whilst in hospital Mrs took her wedding rings off in a bathroom when the nipper vomited all over her she left the rings in the bathroom in a rush to get back and some sticky fingered sod walked off with em. Hopefully the home insurance will cover them.
Second come out after discharge only to discover a screw in the rear left tyre after much running around today got A set of michelins
On the way to the pump to fill up as we are leaving at 2 am and the driver side main beam is flickering. Get to the pump have a look and its yellow in colour.

Is it the difficult to change and does anyone know what the bulb it is. Am I the first person on this forum who has had to replace the main beam?

Just stressed now with all this Goin on don't feel like holidaying!!

Leds and DRL are fine it's the full beam which a search of this site seems to suggest that it is the d3s bulb not bloody cheap.

I have emailed The dealership I purchasd the car from and said it can't be right that the bend lighting and the main beam have all gone in the first year of use. My a3 had xenons and I had that for 4 years no issue. Going to see if they will deal with it as a fault.

I have mine on all the time, they must have well over 1000 if not nearly 2000 hours running time now (53k miles).
Strictly the bulbs are wear items like a normal halogen bulb but depends on dealer if they will replace them, if the car is quite young and you had issues before then your chances are probably good at dealership you bought it from.

PS: I was asking which version of the xenon lights you got.... there are 3 revisions, they are all slightly different in how you change the xenon lamps.

To be honest that's my point they should have approximately 1000 hours minimum use. No way have I got close to that.

I don't have the Dynamic light assist model.

If you look at the following link it's the first picture

I don't know if I'm missing your question re xenons.

If the dealer won't do it for you for free then I did a 'how to' when I changed mine for a slightly different colour tint...

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=270994.0

Basically though, you need to...

1. Grille off
2. Bumper fixings off
3. Pull bumper forward slightly
4. Unbolt headlight
5. Headlight out
6. 5 screws on back of headlight to remove cover
7. Change bulb
8. Refit is reversal of removal

It's a bit of a job but can be done by a competent home mechanic.
