How much discount did you get off the R?
« on: 15 February 2015, 17:20 »
Hello guys!

I know for a lot of you talking money and finances might seem some what personal but hey we're all friends here so I figured it would be helpful if those who chopped in their GTI's for an R told everyone how much it changed their monthly payments and how much "new car discount" they pushed their dealer down to. I'll start with my quote I got today.

Part Ex: Golf GTI 5DR, DSG, PP, Sunroof, Dynaudio, Red, DCC, Reverse Camera, Discover Nav

R Spec: Golf R 3DR, DSG, Discover Nav Pro, Black Pearl, Reverse Camera, Vienna Leather, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry

I got £20600 for the GTI and "1536" new car discount. I'm intending to push down even further. Originally was offered £19750 for the GTI.

Monthly payments went up £90 and I'd have to put 5k down to cover my options.

Got £3600 discount on mine and £1500 more than GFV in p/x. Generous p/x is normally tempered with a lower level of discount on the new one (as seems to be your case).

A general guide is to see what the sticker price for yours will be when you pick your new one up and knock £4k off to get a p/x which will allow you to achieve 12% discount on the new one. At the point of ordering my R, a used 1 year old GTD, same spec as mine was up for £24000. Come March (when my R was supposed to be ready for) my GTD would be up on their forecourt at £22500, £4k more than my p/x. As it turns out, my GTD will most likely be worth £500 less when it lands in May (BW16 is the current situation).
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Gazmondo: When is the R due? Having a long wait usually hammers the P/X value as the car is depreciating £250-270 a month.

Did you get the high GFV finance terms locked in before they disappeared at the start of Nov? The change in GFV has added around £90 a month to most PCP deals. Your £50pm savings could be +£40pm on the new terms if you got yours on the old GFV terms.

I think the old GFV terms were still available before 4th Nov, so if you had a finance quote and got approved then you'll have it. My point was that your monthly savings over the GTI were down to GFV changes Mr Savage won't have access to now.

You did alright getting that GFV, I was going to go for that deal and leave my money in the bank. The dealer took it as a given i'd be accepted back in Sept and didn't push the paperwork through to lock me in for that deal. In Nov, after seeing the much lower GFV, I made sure I still had access to the high GFV, and I don't. VWFS said because my dealer didn't get me put through before the old terms were gone, I can't have them. So mine will be a cash buy.

My dealer thinks that those on the old GFV of around £18k for a 3 door manual (add £600 for 5DR and £500 for DSG as applicable) will end up having zero equity at the end of their term, their GFV might be a bit higher than real p/x value. It will likely be better for them to just hand back the keys.

For those on the lower GFV (£15k for 3DR manual + the above enhancements), they'll see equity of probably £2k over their GFV.

So it's really like you got an extra £1000 off your R compared to the new GFV deals, and you got a cracking p/x value in lieu of huge discount, so don't feel too bad about not getting more discount.

Big p/x comes with a small discount. To get broker sized discounts, you'd have possibly only been offered £18k in p/x for yours. Cost to change is key. You've probably got a slightly better deal than me all told.

I ordered end of October to beat the price increase in November. We achieved 11.8% discount but was offered a poor part ex so I sold it privately last week as it happens.Pick new R up 1st March.
With discount the new car is £29500,taking into account that I got 15k for old car its a result.I am carless  now for 2 long weeks.

Chopped in a year old GTI PP with 19k miles (TR, Manual, 3 door, 19" Santiagos, DNS, Dynaudio) and got an new R (Lapiz Blue, DSG, 5 door, Carbon Nappa Leather, Winter Pack, Reversing Camera, DNS Pro.  Got 12% discount (some of that went to bumping up the part ex figure however).  Can't remember the exact figures for the cars, but my monthly payments went up just over £100, and I put down £1,200 on the R.  Hope that helps!
