Help a guy out guys!
« on: 14 February 2015, 22:12 »
Evening Gti owners my name is Matt from just outside Chester and im looking for some advice from you all,

I currently drive a immaculate fully loaded 2007 mk5 Gti and really fancy upgrading to a mk7 Gti pp
Ive been on carwow and been given some great quotes and have also today found a car in stock that fits the spec im after in the link below!

My question to you all is do we really think its a worthwhile upgrade like £17,000 worth of upgrade?

Do really really love the look of mk7 and preety much every review ive read about them has been fantastic

Linky to car in question -

That's a barging for a 64 plate. I have the PP GTI and its a good car. I haven't owned s mk5 GTI but I did own a mk6 140gt. Although the GTI is good isn't worth the difference in price in my opinion. Although if you asked me before I bought mine, I would have told you to go buy this tomorrow!

Thanks for reply
Just quite undecided what to do!
Only thing putting me off the car posted above is that its a ex demonstrator model with near 5k miles possibly hard miles by dozens of different people  :lipsrsealed:

Yeah I drove the demo hard to be honest. My only concern would be the clutch. VW only give you a 6500 warranty on the clutch and it costs over £1000 for a replacement. Generally a good car. I have had a fair few warranty issues so I'm not as impressed as some. I would look at some of the common faults on here  and go test drive it.

Yes you have now got me even more concerned!
Clutch :-(
And yes ive driven all demo's hard myself in the past plus a rep is currently using it to drive to and from work!
Maybe il just go back to my original plan and order a manual carbon grey 3 door Gti pp with 19" santiago's and wait the 16-20 week delivery period!

Without me having to trawl all the threads does anyone have a link to some of common problems and warranty issues experienced?
Thanks again

Or just stick with my mk5

I don't see it as a real 'bargain' as a 5k mile demo car. If you ditch the sat-nav you can order a brand new white GTI (PP) 3-door for 24,444 (through a broker at 12% off).

Go and speak to your dealer. There will  be stock cars already built and in the UK that may be available without the wait. I was looking on the salesman's desk ipad at my dealer yesterday and most configurations I tried had various amounts of stock available and not just Chritmas Tree specs either. Are you really insistent on the Santiago's ?  As I think they may prove to be the difference between waiting or not.

As above, there are bound to be cars in the system by now that won't have a long lead time.
Don't spec it up too silly and it won't cost you an arm and a leg to buy a new one.

Personally I'm a big fan of ex-demos as if they're bought at the right time they're bargains and they have a 3 year warranty. If a VW clutch can't last more than 6500 miles that won't be driven flat out by everybody all the time then it's a bad thing! I've never driven a demo *that* hard and most demo cars I've been in (quite a lot) tend to go quite well as they've been run in the Italian way!

If you're only going to keep it a few years then I wouldn't worry too much about who's driven it before, let VW's warranty dept worry about that. It it's a long term car then buy new.

I am in no rush and on the look out for a 5 door PP. New or pre reg.

Carwow, were not as competitive as I had hoped compared to Broadspeed and one of the Medway VW garages others on here have bought from.

Some of the pre reg cars seem a good deal, you need to wait until they need to sell though as in at 1/4 end.

We have the 15 reg plate arriving in a couple of weeks, so those 2014 64 plate cars will start to look old.

I am half joking about that, but it helps if you are a buyer!
