i've been keyed
« on: 12 February 2015, 21:51 »
some little f**k*r has taken a key to the front wing. i'm soooo angry right now i'm losing my mind. i'll upload some photos tomorrow but it's so gutting. if it was my own fault i could handle it... but because it's someone else that's done it, who i have no idea, where or when it happened is the worst thing.

i went to wash it on sunday and saw this scratch and thought the worst. yep, about 6-7 inch wavy key line.    the thing is there were still tiny flakes of paint around the scratch that were stuck to the panel... does that mean it's fresh and was done on my driveway?! because if that's the case i've got a serious problem on my hands and need to invest in some home security... cctv etc

is that just me being paranoid or would static make the tiny flakes stick to the bodywork for a day or 2? i would expect the wind to blow it off but not sure.

chips away quoted £170 VAT which i thought was pretty pricey, was hoping of sub £100.

anyone know of any other options? i called a local bodyshop and they quoted £350 + VAT which is outrageous.

i thought about halfords and might pop down over the weekend but they only offer a 3 year guarantee. so what happens after that? does the lacquer start peeling?!

i can't afford a respray at the moment as i've only just forked out for 2x pirelli p-zeros, a BCS downpipe and cat, new air con pipe, tax, insurance and MOT. not a happy first birthday for the gti

Just watch out for rust..........

To get a decent match you'd have to to the door and possibly the bonnet hence why paint shops will quote you ££££'s

Word to the wise, if you go for Halfords, DO NOT get the touch-up pen kits, absolutely horrendous no colour match whatsoever... Mate had the same problem on his mk4 (metallic silver also), the touch-up kit came out more like a dark grey and ended up looking 10 times worse...
